If you're like me (Black and on Threads) you have seen Durand Bernarr all up and through the comments of nearly every niche, nuanced, and newsworthy convo giving the girls a good laugh (and a little boost of serotonin in my day).
If you don't know Durand Bernarr (your head's gotta be in the sand) he's a Grammy award-winning artist known for his fierce, virtuosic, soulful voice and sharp melanated wit. Oh and you might know him from the ICONIC gif of him running to get his first Grammy Award for Best Progressive R&B Album for his project BLOOM at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards, fittingly on the first day of Black History Month Feb 1, 2026.
Well, Durand Bernarr has recently taken on a new, unexpected role: the chat-appointed "Threayor of Black Threads." Funny and fictional, it seems to make sense right? The Black Threads community has become a vibrant space where Black thought and culture is shared and celebrated.
The story of how Durand Bernarr became the mayor...or rather, the Threayor of Black Threads is as silly and spontaneous as the shining artist himself.
The Inception of the Threayor Title
The idea of Durand Bernarr as mayor of Black Threads started with a post from a fellow Threads user, backed by 3.4K follower's support:

Once the idea was floated, Durand Bernarr embraced it fully, leaning into it with the same creativity and care he brings to his music. His commitment to Black Threads went beyond casual participation, he became a champion for the community’s values with his hilarious Inaugural Address (#4 is my fav):

With terms like Threadministration on down, the lore is simply bizarre in the best way with the right amount of whimsy. What makes this hit harder for me is the mindfulness of his moves and words, keeping the space safe for everyone. To ensure the clarity of his intentions, he came back with a follow-up post the next day, saying:

Durand Bernarr as the mayor of Black Threads shows how digital spaces can become places of community with real influence and I love it.
His new album BERNARR. drops tomorrow, May 1st, 2026.
